that feels like home
Our story
A passion with deep roots
It was a dark and stormy night… no, come on, we’re joking!
Ours is a story of passion and love where there is no room for darkness and storms.
The dawn of a dream…
It all began in 1954, when Grandfather Filippo and Grandmother Teresa decided to build their future in the hospitality industry by opening the La Montanina guesthouse, together with their children Annamaria and Dario. A courageous choice, because although dedication and determination were strong, so too were the commitments and difficulties.
Grandmother Teresa, a woman with a big heart and a passionate midwife, refused to give up her job despite the impossible shifts and did her utmost to manage everything. Little Annamaria was still too young – “a little bit of cheese?” – but always ready to help out.
Grandfather Filippo pursued his dream by tackling the initial financial challenges with passion and unwavering tenacity. At that time, Livigno was beginning to make a name for itself as a tourist destination and still offered few accommodation facilities: this meant that there was always a good clientele.
… brought to life!
Annamaria grows up, blossoms and captures the heart of Modesto, the tall, dark-haired, friendly driver who courts her relentlessly until she finally says “yes”. Time and money are scarce, but passion and hard work abound: nine children are born from that great love: Elisabetta, Gianluigi, Andrea, Giovanna, Simona, Gianluigi, Nicola, Michele and Valentina, future followers of the great dream of their grandparents and parents.
As the family grew, La Montanina grew with it, becoming larger and larger, more and more welcoming, more and more like home. Today, the three of us sisters – Valentina, Giovanna and Simona – manage it, cherish it and improve it. Over the years, many guests have stayed with us, leaving a piece of their hearts within these walls and becoming part of our history: we hope you will become one of them!
